About DOJ:

Dedicated to improving “Quality of Life” since 1896.

About DoJWhile maintaining its century-long orientation as a full-service health care provider, DOJ has evolved into an organization that uses the most modern technology, training and protocols to meet the specialized needs of patients and residents. With the latest state-of-the-art medical equipment, highly skilled professional staff, and spacious accommodations, DOJ is committed to the comfort, care and convenience of our residents. This is the same commitment our founders had when DOJ was first conceived.

A history of caring.
In 1896, while witnessing the plight of poor, homeless and aged men in lower Manhattan, a small group of Jewish women established The Home of the Daughters of Jacob. Their first building was a three-story brownstone erected on Gouverner Street and served 19 residents. By 1904 they moved to a larger facility on East Broadway which accommodated 100 residents. But the need for services and facilities soon outstripped even the new housing, and in 1911 The Home of the Daughters of Jacob moved to its current location in the Bronx.

As the Bronx changed, DOJ changed. By the 1960’s, the community was no longer European or  Jewish. New Americans from the Caribbean, Korea, and Latin America settled into the neighborhood. Today DOJ and the immediate community look like a mini-United Nations, rich with ethnic and religious diversity.

A history of innovation.
The health care needs of the community also changed and DOJ responded by adding innovative and sometimes ground breaking services. A hemodialysis clinic was erected on site so residents could receive treatment in the comfort of our facility. Ventilator equipment and skilled professionals in respiratory therapy were brought in, again to provide life sustaining treatment on premises. And our dialysis as well as ventilator services accommodate obese residents – a combination of services found nowhere else in the area. We’ve also added Adult Day Care services, short- and long-term rehabilitation among many other services.
