The words “pain” and “quality of life” don’t go together. So at DOJ, making residents as comfortable as possible is a top priority. We start with a team of medical specialists including physicians who are Board Certified in Palliative Care, anesthesiologists, an Osteopathic Physician and a special Care Coordinator who works with each resident individually, orchestrating treatments.
Recently, we’ve added traditional Chinese and Korean Acupuncture as well as exercise and massage therapy. This blending of Eastern and Western medical philosophy is intended to improve the quality of life at DOJ by:
- Increasing resident daily activities
- Reducing or eliminating chronic or acute symptoms
- Reducing or eliminating symptom related depression & anxiety
- Introducing new healthy patient coping strategies
All the while, the program is designed to reduce unnecessary pharmacological use. |
